Ed has completed a family history book on the Butler family, entitled The Descendants of Thomas Pincerna, Progenitor of the Butler Family. It was self published with the assistance of GenPub, a Dallas publishing company that specializes in genealogy books. This book contains over 3,000 different family members in 29 generations from Thomas Pincerna, who was born in 1180 in England. "Pincerna" is Latin for Butler. Immediately after the Norman Conquest in 1066, Latin served as the official language at court. There are many barons, earls and knights who bore the Butler name. The book has 592 pages of text and a 45 page, double column every name index. The index lists all women by both their maiden name (if known) and married name.

The Foreword was written by Sharon DeBartolo Carmack, C.G.R.S., who is a well known professional genealogist.

Royalty:
The book contains three chapters which reflect the connection of this Butler line with several royal figures, including King Malcolm Creannmor, King of Scotland and his children King David I and his wife (and sister) Queen Matilda; King Henry I of France, King Olav III of Sweden; Alfred the Great, King Bernard of Italy, and Charlemagne, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.

Other family names that appear frequently (8 or more individuals) in this book are:

This book is now in its third printing. The Dallas Genealogical Society recently named this book as the recipient of its First Place Award for 1997 in its Division III, Category 1 - A Documented Family Genealogy, over five other entries. Comments from the judges included the following:

"Wonderful volume - very impressive - excellent example of what a family history ought to be".

"The author is taking previous research and building on it for the benefit of future generations. The writing is literate, vocabulary is good".

"Very nice presentation".

The following is a review of the book in the column, Genealogical Genie, in the Brownsville State-Graphic, Brownsville, TN on June 26, 1997:

"We'd like to quote a paragraph from the page Judge Butler included entitled: "Are People with Proven Pedigrees Better than Anybody Else?"

"...by tracing one's pedigree, we discover patterns among our ancestors. Intelligence, health, appearance, work ethic, patriotism, honesty, artistic talents, courage, loyalty, faithfulness, bravery, scholarship, ingenuity and tenacity are only a few traits that we derive from our ancestors. The offspring of some families have a tendency to hold public office, perform military service, to be explorers and pioneers and to have good personalities. Many family traditions are merely repetitions of similar social or economic patterns over several generations.

"Most of the genealogy game are just curious. We want to know who our ancestors were and where they came from. We vicariously enjoy reading about their exploits. History comes alive for us. Finding a royal ancestor is just the icing on the cake. [end of portion of book being quoted]

"To my way of thinking, this pretty well sums up most of our feelings about genealogy!" The author of Genie is Reese J. Moses, a volunteer with the Elma Ross Public Library of Brownsville.

The cost of the book is $79.50 including postage and handling. Orders should be mailed to:
